if you wanna sing out, sing out...if you wanna be free, be free

....cos there's a million ways to be, you know that there are.....

i was reminded (if i even needed reminding) of the brilliance of Hal Ashby's unconventional love story Harold + Maude when i went to see it at the NFT last friday and after the movie was screened Texan-born, Essex-raised Lightspeed Champion (previously of Test Icicles) performed the soundtrack (by Cat Stevens). sadly i wasn't able to hang around late enough to listen but i'm sure it was fabulous.

perfect movie - the ability to make me crack up laughing one minute and bring a tear to the eye the next - perfect antidote to the working week. tho i'm secretly relieved every time that the "love scene" remained on the cutting room floor (nothing against cougars, but i'm obviously still a little prudish...)

ginhalation

recently attended the Alcoholic Architecture event put together by those mad scientists at Bompas + Parr....definitely on a par with last year's jelly banquet...and inhaling gin through an industrial sized humidifier is definitely the best way to imbibe. standing in a gin-cloud-filled room with several other giggly people all dressed in white (custody) suites....giggling and inhaling madly....hilarious...and delicious....

harmelss creatures....

bumped into lovely Estonian (via Brooklyn) lady Kristiana in Union Square on my recent trip to NYC and bought one of her prints..
check out her website...and buy her work at Etsy....

Punchdrunk

sooooo excited.....just bought tickets to go see It Felt Like a Kiss a Punchdrunk/Adam Curtis/ Damon Albarn production which is part of the Manchester International Festival in July.

"It Felt Like a Kiss tells the story of America’s rise to power in the golden age of pop, and the unforeseen consequences it had on the world and in our minds. Beginning in 1959, the show spotlights the dreams and desires that America inspired during the ’60s, when the world began to embrace the country and its culture as never before. But as this daring production unfolds across five floors, blending music with documentary and the disorientating whirl of a fairground ghost train, the audience is forced to face the dark forces that were veiled by the American dream – a dream that ultimately returns to haunt us all.

It Felt Like a Kiss is created by renowned BBC filmmaker Adam Curtis and director Felix Barrett of groundbreaking theatre company Punchdrunk, with original music composed by Damon Albarn and recorded perfomance by the Kronos Quartet."

having seen Punchdrunk in action before i know we're in for a fantastic ride....can't wait to start planning the outfit!
