am off to the Secret Cinema christmas screening this weekend - no idea what it is yet but the clues seem to hint towards a flapper era mob-related flick and guesses range from Millers Crossing to Bugsy Malone (here's hoping as at least it involves SPLURGE GUNS)...don't sound very christmassy to me??
it got me thinking about my preferred choice of PROPER christmas movies...as follows....
A Christmas Story (1983 Dir: Bob Clark) - by far the best christmas movie ever...tho sadly i've never seen it shown in the UK...the tale of Ralphie's struggle to get his dream christmas prezzie: the Red Rider BB gun - as he comes up against resistance from his mom, teacher and even Santa himself as they protest "you'll shoot you're eye out"...does he get what he wants...i won't spoil it...but suffice to say Ralphie in his aunty's gift of a bunny suit on christmas morning is absolutely priceless...
and this month A Christmas Story celebrates its 25 year anniversary with a CONVENTION on the 28th + 29th November in Cleveland...with many of the original cast attending...you can even visit the original house where the movie was shot, which is now a museum....awww shucks wish i could go!!...(I actually spotted Ralphie on the tellybox as i was surfing last night in the terrible Jennifer Anniston/Vince Vaughn movie The Break Up - he looked exactly the same...like a grown man with a child's face...weird). ohmygod there's even a shop...you can BUY THE LEG LAMP!!!

Trading Places (1983 Dir: John Landis) - quality christmas movie...great cast, great script, great laughs and great moral tale...and Dan Ackroyd as rampaging drunken Santa is just bloody hilarious...not to mention GORILLA LOVE...great all year round....
A Nightmare Before Christmas (1993 Dir: Henry Sellick) - tho i shudder at the thought that Jack Skellington is BORED of Halloween (how? why? shurley shum mishtake)...this tale of his discovery of christmas is a corker...one i'll be watching this year for sure...
Special mention must go to Grinch, Elf ("Santa? I KNOW HIM!") and It's a Wonderful Life...oh alright AND Die Hard.
