pigeon pests

ready lads...CHOCKS AWAY!
spotted on a recent trip to Sainsburys in Ladbroke Grove....those pesky pigeons! and one of them looks like he's going in for a peck to eat out of Tom Dixon's new gaff - not sure when (or if) he will ever move in but i would kill for a look round once its completed!
the water tower that Tom Dixon is converting into his home
is this a tin of food i see before me?

robin love

everyone knows - any bird jewellery and i am totally smitten...so i have naturally fallen in love with the cute bird range from New Zealand store boh runga.  i am particularly craving the silver and gold robin pendants and charm bracelets.
as mentioned on their site the Black Robin, which lives on an island just off the coast of New Zealand, almost reached extinction with only 5 left in the world. however, through dedicated conservation efforts, the Black Robin has had a miraculous comeback.  we in the UK, of course, have our very own national bird the gloriously chirpy chubby little Robin Redbreast - a welcome sight in my garden every day, especially during the winter months. we would of course be completely devastated if we lost them so i can really appreciate the Black Robin's success story and it makes these beautiful pieces of jewellery even more desirable as a reminder of the important role these little birds play in our lives.
just as an added festive note - did you know the reason why robins feature so heavily on christmas cards and ornaments? it's because in Victorian times postmen wore red tunics as part of their uniform, they always worked over the christmas holiday period continuing to deliver cards and gifts and so they were often given the nickname Robin Redbreasts - the birds began appearing on cards, linking the bird and the postman and the tradition has stuck!

Made in Brighton

the fabulous Royal Pavillion

Brighton Pier

just back from a lovely sunny day at the seaside.  i received a free ticket to the Made craft fair in Brighton from artist gillian bates so popped down on the train for the afternoon.  the craft fair was great - i got to meet in person a few lovely ladies who's work i have bought, admired and wanted and i also managed to get hold of a few early christmas presents.
 gillian bates

i then strolled down to the pebble beach, along the shore and then up the lanes to do a bit of shopping, spotted a few bits of street art (including my beloved Trellick Tower) and some rather disturbing teddy abuse....

a woman needs a man like a prawn needs a bicycle...but how else is he sposed to get to work?

teddy abuse...pure and simple...he doesn't look happy (he doesn't look sober!)

casette lord...he gets about a bit

never far from home...Trellick Tower!
then headed back down to the pier to watch the spectacular autumn display of roosting starlings...and a beautiful almost full moon ....awesome.

then it was back on the train to London town....oh i do miss the seaside....*sigh*
