when we arrived at the party it turned out only a couple of us had dressed up for the occasion but my homage to The Birds went down a storm.....
i spent the night in Herne Hill with Christina and we were up the next day, only slightly worse for wear, and we went out for a wander round the local area - past the park, to some lovely shops and then went for a very surreal lunch at The Commercial pub opposite the station. the food was a bit disappointing (very dry fish and chips) but we met a 90 year old war vet who had just escaped from The Maudsley Hospital down the road who kept us entertained in between showing Christina his bandaged sores and fingering my chips! he talked about the Cambridge Five (spies Guy Burgess and Kim Philbin and co) so we suspect he had a very interesting past and bless him, kept saying he had lost his house keys but would be spending the night at his "club" - which a local told us was actually the old people's home he lived in...awww. his rambling did eventually become a little too much so we sneaked out after our food and i headed northwards home.
