i heart Trellick Tower

Trellick Tower

i've always had a bit of a thing about Trellick Tower....when returning from long journeys the sight of it always makes me go warm and fuzzy as i know i'm close to home. i don't think i could ever live anywhere in London where i can't see it. which is probably why my house is filling up with Trellick memorabilia (art, bags, crockery) just in case.

the GLC commissioned Erno Goldfinger to build it in 1966 (completed 1972) and the design was based on his smaller Balfron Tower in Poplar, East London. what began as an experiment in social housing is now a much sought after address with flats going for £300,000+...not sure about the lifts, but what a view (if you get the top that is!).

Balfron Tower is going to be restored within the next few years and in the meantime Poplar HARCA, in association with the Bow Arts Trust, are offering empty derelict flats to artists as studios and galleries to exhibit their work. to find out about exhibitions or how to apply for an artist space go to: www.bowarts.org/home.php
